Three Great Ideas For Planning A New York-Themed Wedding: Pt. 2 Fun & Funky Yellow & Black Rockabilly Wedding
Brash & Beautiful New York, New York!
If you grew up on the mean streets of New York, chances are there's a little bit of it in your blood no matter where you moved after you left Bright Lights, Big City. If you and your fiancé met there, it probably has an even more special place in your heart. However, if your lifestyle is a little more tattooed bride than Breakfast at Tiffany's and your fondest memories of New York are hot dog vendors, subways and taxi stands, a rockabilly yellow and black themed wedding may be a great off-off Broadway wedding theme for you. Yes, yellow and black are kind of in your face colors for a wedding, but if you're the off-beat, just a little left of center bride I think you are, this theme will have you strutting like a stray cat at your own cleverness!

Save The Dates New York City Style!
You've gotta clue your friends in early to let them know when this wild party is gonna go down, so Save The Date's are a must! Do you have a favorite spot where you and your beau hang that all your friends can relate to and will instantly recognize in a picture? A fun idea would be to get some heavy poster board and a large number stencil. Trace out your wedding date and and decorate it whatever fun, colorful way you think would show up in the picture, even glitter would be cool, and string the letters together by punching holes in the sides of each letter and threading them through with ribbon. Then take yourself and your sweetie, dressed in your rockabilly best, to the Brooklyn Bridge. Stage your photo with your wedding date hanging over the edge of the bridge and you and your fiancé trying to "rescue" it from certain death...Get it.... "save" the date?! It's a sure-fire way to create a memorable Save The Date your friends will love.
What To Wear When You're A Rockabilly Bride
A huge part of the rockabilly style is...well...STYLE! You may choose to go with a vintage white short lace dress with circle skirt with piles of crinolines underneath, or, daring rockabilly girl you might choose anything BUT white to waltz down the aisle. Red or black would be fun to go with your yellow and black color theme. Don't forget some fun Chuck Taylor's on both of your feet if you're going for comfort or some sky high pointy toe pumps with Ed Hardy-look shoe clips for you. Be daring and tattoo a pair of worn, but well broken in pumps with acrylic paints and glitter. Print out some color tattoo looking images from the Internet and decoupage them onto your shoes until they're completely covered. Mod Podge, a decoupage glue, or thinned down white glue works best. Make sure to end up with a couple of clear coats of sealer so all your hard work doesn't get destroyed if it happens to rain on your day!

Yellow & Black Décor...For A Wedding
We've already determined you're not the traditional bride with your choice of a taxi rockabilly-themed wedding, so why are you getting shy about the yellow & black color combo? If you're really feeling unsure, there are a couple of other colors to tone down your yellow & black. Use accents in white and red if you find an allover scheme of yellow & black a little too over the top. Picture your tables with black overlays, yellow or red runners and your taxi theme centerpieces in the center. You may be able to find a taxi company that gives away foam taxis as advertisement that would be willing to give you some for if you begged them pretty please. Then you could simply skewer the taxis on a sharp stick and add to your centerpieces. Have a talented friend who's a graphic artist? Have him or her create subway tickets to use as part of your décor! They'd make great place cards, table scatter or added to centerpieces as well. You could create your own if you have Word on your computer and just make them business card size. DaFont has free downloadable fonts with so many different scripts you're bound to find something you can use. Create your own subway art with different fonts using words or places that mean something to the two of you as a couple and enlarge it into poster size. Design several different ones and hang around your reception venue. Afterward, you'll have cool décor for your new place!

Street Faire For Wedding Food
If one of your favorite things about New York is the street vendors, why not give your reception a street vendor feeling by doing separate food stations instead of one big buffet? A giant pretzel station, a hot dog station, even a fruit station, (yes, they do have some healthy food vendors on the streets of New York!), as well as a create your own shish-ka-bob station would be fun and colorful. You want your food to be grab and go anyway, because hopefully, the main focus of your reception is going to be you, of course, and that great rockabilly music in the background. Add some French crepes at one station for a dessert buffet and don't forget a fun and imaginative cake pulling in a pic of the New York City skyline and a taxi cab or two!

The After Party
Don't want your day to end after the rockin' rockbilly reception? Enclose a golden ticket inside of a gang of your closest friend's invitations inviting them to an after party. Make sure it's on the Q-T (that's quiet for those not in the rockabilly know!) and that golden ticket holders know your getaway isn't really a getaway, but just an invitation to meet you at the next location, the first of a string of your favorite rockabilly clubs! You can dance the night away until the wee hours when your pre-arranged getaway taxi awaits to sweep you off to Vegas or wherever your New York City hearts desire. End the festivities with a wedding parade across the Brooklyn Bridge with your entire wedding party. That'll make for some great pictures and memories you'll never forget!
